The Qala football pitch was extended to FIFA standards, rebuilt with a purposely designed sub-base, fitted with a new artificial turfed surface, equipped with a stormwater collection system and suitably floodlit. To reduce take up of undeveloped land, the extension included changing rooms, showers and meeting rooms beneath the pitch extension. This football pitch required expansion and modernization to meet the growing demands of the thriving football community of the locality and of the island. The addition of the new facilities was to enhance the overall experience of the players and coaches.
New features were included with the extension of the football pitch. The extension was to provide ample space both for training and matches. The playing surface was upgraded with high-quality artificial turf to ensure optimal performance, durability, stability and safety. Around the perimeter of the ground a soft net was installed. High-tenacity nets were also put-up to cover the area behind the goal posts. The new changing rooms, showers and related facilities which were constructed beneath the pitch offer comfort and convenience for the opposing teams. A new and improved flood light system was installed for night-time use of the pitch. A second phase of the project will involve the construction of a south facing spectator stand.
