The Xewkija Playground Regeneration Project was designed to revitalize an already existing space by incorporating new design concepts concentrating on the enhancement of existing soft landscaping. This urban regeneration project has created five play area “bubbles” connected through a walking track, while retaining the existing mature trees within a protective green border around the playground. The “bubbles” are distinct by colour and cater to a diverse audience hailing from different age groups and preferences which provide an engaging space. Furthermore, this project aimed at providing a multifunctional space that is intended for both active play and passive recreation.

The design of this project was centred around the existing soft landscaping and on the expansion of green areas which promoted environmental sustainability. By integrating natural elements, the well-being of the user is enhanced. These measures align with the contemporary trends found in landscape design which prioritize ecological balance and biodiversity. Instead of plastic for the play equipment this project utilized timber which has become an eco-friendlier alternative. This choice is a step in the right direction towards the use of durable and sustainable urban furniture.
With the inclusion of both open spaces and play equipment areas, this project caters to a wider audience as children, adults and seniors can all find relevant spaces for their recreational preferences. By utilizing an inclusive approach, it does not only cater for the immediate users, but the space even contributes to the community on a larger scale by fostering social cohesion and interaction.
