Żebbuġ

The Żebbuġ Adventure Playground was originally built in the 1990s and has seen decades of use and wear. By recognizing the importance of this communal space, this renovation project was particularly aimed to modernize its facilities and surfaces. Therefore, the playground aimed to rejuvenate the existing area by completely upgrading and renovating the space whilst ensuring that the playground meets contemporary safety standards. Nonetheless, the main design layout was retained, and the existing soft landscaping was enhanced with an appositely designed landscaping scheme. The existing mature trees including palms and cypresses were therefore integrated within the new planting scheme.

This project was designed to create a safe and engaging space that fosters community interaction for both children and families. The playground has four main different play areas which are all interconnected with each other through different paths. New impact-absorbing surfacing materials were installed. Colourful fencing was also erected to secure entry points and create a safe environment for all users. Outdated structures were replaced by new modern equipment that caters to various age groups and children with diverse needs. The design of the space prioritizes inclusivity as the playground ensures that it is accessible to children of all abilities, for instance by including wheelchair-friendly paths and accessible equipment. The landscaping of the playground encloses the play areas to create a safer environment for the children using the space and included the creation of a green jasmine wall along the adjoining school wall.
